I wish to thank you, and your provincial, Rev. Pat Lee, S.J., for the launch of The Sacred Story Institute here in the Archdiocese of Seattle. The Institute’s work has the potential of doing tremendous good to help us meet head-on the challenging new climate the Church faces in the Third Millennium for preaching the Gospel in the context of our Faith: using the Ignatian Examen as a tool for evangelization; renewal of the practice of sacramental reconciliation; discernment; building of faith and conscience formation resources for K-12 youth; revitalizing a daily prayer life for Catholic parishioners; and foundational research that will help Catholics from all walks of life understand their “sacred stories” in the light of the Sacred Story of Jesus Christ as handed on by the Church.
I am grateful to serve the work of this Institute as its first Ecclesiastical Advisor, and I look forward to working with you and your board as the Institute develops in these first years. Please feel free to let others who may inquire know of my support of the work that you are doing. May The Sacred Story Institute’s efforts toward integral evangelization be a blessing for the Seattle Archdiocese, the Church and the Society of Jesus’ mission to serve Christ in the Church under the banner of His cross.
With every best wish and prayer, I am
Sincerely in Christ,
Most Rev. J. Peter Sartain
Archbishop of Seattle
