E & W reflections are additional helps for your Sacred Story prayer journey. Reflect on them at week’s beginning or outside of your 15-minute prayer periods.

Eternity

Last week, we reflected that prayerful awareness of ETERNITY helps us to realize that life on this earth is short. This week, we reflect that this transience can open us to see each day as a spiritual event that transcends time and material concerns. Knowing that life has a fixed end, I am freed to search for life’s spiritual meaning and help others do the same.

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat , or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds in the sky; they do not sow or reap, they gather nothing into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are not you more important than they? Can any of you by worrying add a single moment to your life-span? Why are you anxious about clothes? Learn from the way the wild flowers grow. They do not work or spin. But I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was clothed like one of them. If God so clothes the grass of the field, which grows today and is thrown into the oven tomorrow, will he not much more provide for you, O you of little faith? So do not worry and say, ‘What are we to eat?’ or ‘What are we to drink?’ or ‘What are we to wear?’ All these things the pagans seek. Your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom (of God) and his righteousness, and all these things will be given you besides. (Mt 6: 25-33)

Lord Jesus, help us to daily remember that worry is truly a fruitless use of our precious time. Help us to look to your ETERNITY and the Love you have for us.
May our awareness of your eternal Love open our hearts
-hourly, daily, weekly, yearly-
to you who are
Creation, Presence, Memory, Mercy and Eternity.

O God, you are my God whom I seek;
for you my flesh pines and my soul thirsts like the earth, parched, lifeless and without water.
Thus have I gazed toward you in the sanctuary to see your power and your glory,
For your kindness is a greater good than life; my lips shall glorify you.
You are my help, and in the shadow of your wings I shout for joy.
My soul clings fast to you; your right hand upholds me.

(Psalm 63: 2,3-4, 7-8)
